Talangi Private Cellar was established on a single conviction: that South Africa’s finest wines, presented with the discipline and intentionality of a great European Maison, belong in the world’s most important cellars. We are a négociant house — which means we do not farm a single estate. We source, we select, we reject. We work with master winemakers whose craft we have studied and whose standards we share. We bring only what we would personally cellar to the Talangi Private Cellar.
On the name. On the north. On why this exists.
Joseph Maluleke was born in Limpopo, in the north of South Africa, where the Tsonga people have lived for centuries. He did not grow up near a vineyard. He grew up near an idea: that the things Africa produces, when given the space and the standards they deserve, are among the world’s finest.
Talangi is the Tsonga word for rare. It is also the word this Maison has chosen to hold itself to — in every barrel selected, in every bottle allocated, in every table we ask to carry our name.
We are not building a wine brand. We are building a legacy.
We do not grow. We discern.
The great négociant houses of Burgundy — Maison Louis Jadot, Joseph Drouhin, Faiveley — built their reputations not by owning the most vineyard, but by selecting the finest fruit and finishing it with unwavering consistency.
Talangi operates in this tradition, applied to South Africa. Our relationships are with vineyards whose terroir we have studied across multiple vintages. Our winemaking partners are chosen for their precision, not their profile.
